Strengthening Our Progressive Future

Amanda Berry • November 21, 2024

A Message From the SDLA Board

Like many of you, we are still processing the election results and grappling with a sense of urgency and unease. It’s a reminder that the work of building a just, equitable, and sustainable society is far from over. The values we hold dear—values rooted in justice, equity, and accountability—are crucial.

At the San Diego Leadership Alliance (SDLA), we believe society should work for everyone. Government and institutions can and should be a force for good. It is our collective responsibility to elevate every person—regardless of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, or background—to a position of equal treatment and opportunity. This is why we exist: to develop progressive leaders ready to step into their power and work for a future where these values are realized.

We are so proud of our alums who took the bold step to run for office, work on campaigns, and encourage community members to become more civically engaged. Congratulations to our own SDLA alums who ran inspiring campaigns rooted in progressive values and community service, including Sean Elo-Rivera, who was re-elected to serve District 9 on the San Diego City Council, and Lauren Cazares, who was elected to serve on the La Mesa City Council.

We must continue to build our community, fortify our progressive infrastructure, and ensure that the leaders of tomorrow are equipped to advocate for accountability and lasting change. It’s a time to come together, support one another, and ensure that San Diego is a place where progressive values are not just spoken about but actively lived out in our government, our institutions, and our communities.

Now, as we look to 2025 and beyond, we’re urgently asking for your help to continue this work.

Why Your Support Matters
Your contribution directly supports the SDLA Institute, a program that provides future leaders with essential training, mentorship, and opportunities to drive the change we need. With your donation, we can ensure that the next generation of progressive leaders are prepared to advocate for accountability and create lasting, meaningful change.

Will You Join Us in Building This Future?
Please consider supporting us in one of these ways:

Each gift, hour volunteered, and connection made brings us closer to a community where progressive values are more than ideals—they’re the way we live, work, and lead. Your generosity will allow us to expand our programs, support more leaders, and build a stronger foundation for San Diego’s future.

Thank you for your support, belief, and dedication to a better San Diego.

In gratitude and solidarity,

The SDLA Board of Directors
