California State Assembly, Office of Chris Ward (District 78)


Teannae Owens (she/her) is a Field Representative for Assemblymember Chris Ward in the district office, where she provides constituent services and serves as a liaison for several communities in the 78th State Assembly District. For the district office she covers the policy areas of energy, environment, transportation, and insurance. With roots in the reproductive justice space, Teannae is a volunteer for the Wild West Access Fund, a Nevada-based organization that provides practical support and financial assistance for those in need of abortion care.


Teannae is a former student board member of Unite for Gender and Reproductive Equity (URGE), and previously served as the Political Affairs Lead for Free the Period, a statewide coalition in California focusing on menstrual justice. A graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, she holds degrees in Political Science and Environmental Studies. Teannae was part of the PBS NOVA’s Polar Extremes research team, examining the impacts of informal science education on kids and young adults' understanding of STEM concepts. 


During her time at UCSB, Teannae initially served as the Policy Analyst for Students for Reproductive Justice before becoming President of the organization in her senior year. Additionally, she was one of the founding members of  UCSB Associated Students Black Women’s Health Collaborative serving as the Sex Positive Health Director - one of her proudest commitments during college.


In her free time, Teannae loves to bake, go to concerts, and hang out at local coffee shops.
