James Moffat (he/him)

Program and Development Director, Wahupa Educational Services

James Moffat is a non-profit director and higher education professional with a decade of successful experience serving low-income and first-generation students access to a quality and affordable education. Currently, James works at a local non-profit, Wahupa Educational Services as the Program and Development Director where his primary role is to facilitate, supervise, and implement educational opportunities for 3,000 under-represented students annually.

James also works in various roles in the community to promote justice, equity, and accountability. James is the current Chair of the School Site Council at Halecrest Elementary, Chula Vista Elementary District Advisory Council Executive board member, Chula Vista Elementary Independent Citizens Oversight Committee board member, and as Chula Vista City Commissioner Board of Library Trustees. 

Besides his passion for education, James has also been active in local politics working as a field organizer for multiple winning campaigns such as: Jose Preciado, Carolina Chavez, and Cesar Fernandez. James has also been an active member of various groups including Democrats for Equality, AAPI Democratic Club, Chula Vista Democratic Club, Showing Up for Racial Justice, People over Profits, and the SD Racial Justice Coalition. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a Bachelor of Science in Communication, James continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he graduated with a master’s degree in education with a focus in higher education administration. James enjoys spending time with his family, a good Netflix binge, playing basketball, and enjoying the many trails San Diego has to offer.
