Lizette Alvarado is a San Diego native raised in Southeast San Diego. Her background is in community work and local government. She has professional experience working with local grassroots organizations, non profits, the local healthcare system, federal agencies and local government. She has worked with organizations that include SAY San Diego, Employee Rights Center, Sharp Healthcare, the US Commission on Civil Rights, and currently working at the County. She is passionate about working in the community whether that be through advocacy work, community organizing, or at the local government level.
Lizette is a first generation graduate. She graduated from UC San Diego and Columbia University. She is passionate about empowering other first generation students and helping them navigate educational and professional spaces without sacrificing their authentic selves. Lizette enjoys exploring and discussing how social norms and expectations impact our mental health, family dynamics and daily interactions.
During her free time, she loves spending time with her daughter, husband and 9 year old pit bull. She also enjoys a good podcast reading memoirs and writing.
